Where Australian Private Markets Are Heading
Private markets have grown steadily as investors look beyond listed assets. What is driving the shift, and what it means for individual investors.

Private markets - credit, equity, property and infrastructure held outside public exchanges - have taken a larger share of Australian portfolios over the past decade.
What is driving it
Investors have sought income and diversification outside listed markets, and more managers have made private structures available at lower minimums.
The trade-off
Private assets are generally not redeemable on demand. That illiquidity is part of where the return comes from, and it is also the risk most often underestimated.
